Exclaimed someone in a boardroom in Germany.
So this is a pilot program now. Who has $2k or $3.8k a month to subscribe to Porsches?

So It’s kind of like Turo, but with a flatrate, and less choice

Sort of....you have unlimited mileage.
That’s the big advantage.

Part of me thinks that’s a cool idea.

I think it’s cool too!
Just not at this price.

i think Ford was testing something similar, but less monthly $ and, borderline oppofensive, you have the option to get some vehicles with a little more practicality.

Who? Not me..but I wish I did.
I do know a handful of people with $2k+ in monthly car payments (these are couples). One of them is a friend that owns a Panamera GTS, and a Macan S. I couldn’t even see him doing this, because he has 2 vehicles for the price it would take to “subscribe” for 1 at a time under this program.

They don’t have the kind of cars that would excite people.
I don’t think the GT would be a part of the plan. All the have for enthusiasts is Mustangs. Regular people would just buy/lease one car that does everything for a lot cheaper.

Agreed. Its priced horribly.
And the $2k plan doesn’t even get you the exciting cars.
If you could get 911 GTS, Macan GTS and Cayman GTS - it might be worth it?

Sadly, it’s too expensive and limited. For a road warrior that is rarely home (or doesn’t have one, as is the case with a handful I’ve known) and could pick up at any airport in a developed nation, this might actually make sense.
I wonder why they didn’t pilot this somewhere with a deeper pool of potential subscribers, though, like Los Angeles-San Diego, SF Bay Area, NYC, etc. If you didn’t want a major city, but still wanted a solid pool of people that might be willing to burn money on this, there’s Seattle, Phoenix, and Miami. I feel like Atlanta might give them a poor reading of whether there would be demand as I couldn’t imagine that their cars are that appealing for long commutes among brodozers.

Those cars are going to be driven relentlessly hard.

I wonder if you can just sign up for one month. Would be a big cash burn, but you could properly flog everything available.

The only thing I could see being useful is if you have a long commute, but also regularly need a pickup truck. So you could have a Ecoboost Fiesta for everyday driving, but go pick up an F-150 or ranger when youn need it. And maybe grab a Mustang every now and then as a treat.

...if people sign on to it at all lol

It comes down to price. If someone would rather rent a Mustang/F-150 rather than paying double the monthly payment for a new car like Porsche is doing, then its not worth it.

I like that idea!
You can have endless track days!!!!!!

I’m sure there’s plenty of rich folk who’d do it. Just to show up to events, and meetings in a new Porsche every week. Or idk match there car color to their outfit or what ever stupid stufff rich people do.

idr pricing, I think it was piloted on employees so pricing was probably off from what the market would actually be anyway. The idea is interesting. I don’t see it working for Ford or for Porsche, but maybe I’m wrong.

Let’s see what happens.
It doesn’t affect me either way. I can’t afford a $2k monthly car payment lol

Me neither, that’s double my mortgage and car insurance put together

Yeah, a base Boxster or Cayenne isn’t going to cut it. But they do have to factor in depreciation, insurance costs, all maintenance costs, etc.... I just don’t see the math working for this to be a sustainable business.
There’s a local company called “Drive Clutch” that has a similar program but with Pickups, Tahoe’s, Corvette’s etc.
